Introduction

Sodium lauryl sulfate, white or light yellow powder, soluble in water, not sensitive to alkali and hard water. With decontamination, emulsification and excellent foaming power. It is a kind of anionic surfactant which has slight toxic to human body. Its biodegradability >90%. Use: used as emulsifier, fire extinguishing agent, foaming agent and textile auxiliaries. Also used as toothpaste and foaming agent of paste, powder, shampoo.

Detergent

Sodium dodecyl sulfate is commonly used as ionic detergent, it can make the cell membrane disintegrating, binding with the hydrophobic part of membrane protein and separate it from membrane.  high concentration of SDS can also destroy the non covalent bond, such as ion and hydrogen bonds in proteins, and even change the conformation of proteins. This characteristic is commonly used in protein composition analysis of SDS gel electrophoresis.
